A recent article on Daily Mail has correctly pointed out that only about 6 million of the over 2.5 billion recyclable paper cups trashed every year, are actually recycled, the rest end up in land fills somewhere in Asia, it also points out how we as a society and communiity are failing at pushing towards 100% recycling of paper cups. But, where it digresses is when it tries to paint an overall grim picture that suits the reader best, a standard journalism 101 approach to making the reader feel guilt pangs immediately. Nothing wrong in that, but hey, let's just clear our stand on this issue too. Then only the reader gets the complete picture.
First of all, Paper Cups are biodegradable to almost 99%, yes, other than the thin PE coating, the rest is all 100% biodegradable, so unlike plastic they do not stay put in landfills either, forever, they eventually decompose.
Secondly, paper cup companies like us, keep sending out our paper trash to recycling companies like Viridor, recycling companies like them are eager to get your trash since their revenue is generated from the end product of the process, so the more you supply them with paper trash, paper cups to be recycled, they merrier they are.
We have bins at each of our facilities, print shop, manufacturing and shipping units, warehouses and literally everywhere in our factory, specficially for paper cups, and Viridor picks them up for us and recycles them, the recyling companies are eager to collect paper trash, it's what they do for a living, al we need to do is go ahead and make it possible for them on a daily basis.
Moreover, Scyhpus is moving towards a 100% biodegradable and Green alternative to PE, we are going green and moving towards PLA from PE soon.
So you see, it's not that dangerous yet or difficult either, we just need to work together and trash sensibly, the rest will be taken care of by the recycling companies.
